The Hall of the Cane Corso

Cane Corso

Rome’s war dog, Italy’s farm guardian, and the foundation of the Royal Blood estate — power carried with perfect composure.

The Origin

From cohors — the guard of the courtyard

Before it was a breed, it was a soldier. The Cane Corso descends from the canis pugnax, the heavy war dog that marched with Roman legions and, when the wars ended, stayed to guard the farmsteads of the empire. Its very name is likely drawn from the Latin cohors — the guard of the courtyard.

For centuries it was Southern Italy’s all-purpose protector: drover of cattle, hunter of boar, keeper of the family and its land. When mechanized farming emptied the countryside in the twentieth century, the breed nearly emptied with it — surviving only in scattered pockets of Puglia and the Mezzogiorno.

Its rescue was deliberate: in the 1970s and 80s, Italian enthusiasts traced the remaining dogs farm by farm and rebuilt the breed from what history had spared. International recognition followed, and the courtyard guard of Rome became one of the world’s great modern guardians.

The Standard

What defines the breed
Struttura Structure

A powerful, athletic mastiff — substance without heaviness, built to move, work, and endure.

Mantello The Coat

Short, dense, and lustrous — black, grey, or fawn, worn like polished armor over working muscle.

Tempra Temperament

Composure under pressure. Indifferent to strangers, devoted to its family, decisive only when it must be.

La Guardia The Work

A guardian by inheritance — the courtyard, the property, the children. The post is never abandoned.

III. The Registry

Papers Before Promises

Our Cane Corso carry CKU/FCI registration, hip, elbow, and heart clearances completed before any breeding is planned, and a full international export pedigree issued with every placement. The breed that once guarded Roman courtyards is held here to a standard Rome would recognize: proof, not promises.

The Royal Blood Line

The foundation of the estate

The Cane Corso is where Royal Blood began — and the crest the kennel still wears. From Shantou, Guangdong, Dr. Mohamed Naveed’s program selects for the whole animal at once: size, structure, temperament, and health, so that the guardian who fills the doorway is the same one sleeping beside the children an hour later.

Size

Bred up, never watered down — a Corso that fills the doorway the way the old blood intended, without losing a step.

Structure

Correct conformation before fashion — real bone, a level topline, and movement the ring and the field both respect.

Temperament

The classic Corso mind — composed indoors, indifferent to noise, decisive only when its family needs it.

Health

Hips, elbows, and heart cleared on every breeding dog — read with a physician’s discipline before any pairing is planned.
