The Origin
莱州红 · the Chinese Red Dog
The Laizhou Hong — the “Laizhou Red” — is China’s own great guardian, bred up in the coastal county of Laizhou, in Shandong. Where the Corso and the Dogo carry centuries and blueprints, the Laizhou Hong is a modern achievement: local working dogs crossed with imported European breeds and selected, generation after generation, into a tall, powerful, unmistakably red molosser.
For decades it was known within China and almost nowhere else — a world-class protection and family dog the wider world had simply never been shown. Prized for its guarding instinct, its composure, and the deep vermilion coat that gives it its name, it became the guardian of choice for those who knew it.
Its arrival on the world stage is recent, and deliberate. Dr. Naveed set out to document the breed and be part of its global expansion — and entered his own bloodline into the CKU-NB, the native-breed registry, becoming one of only a handful of kennels on earth to record the Laizhou Hong at that level.
